「コミュニティーアート（TUJ協働）」は2020年9月に新規開講した科目で、2021年に二度目の開講を実現させました。
このコースはテンプル大学ジャパンキャンパスの学生と共にグローバルな視点から地域社会とアートについて考える授業です。英語と日本語によるバイリンガルの授業で、履修者は、世田谷美術館や二子玉川商店街をはじめ、リアルタイムで行われているコミュニティアート活動について学ぶとともに、各グループがそれぞれの「コミュニティ」を活性化するためのプロジェクトを企画・提案・実行します。
今年は、二子玉川商店街や河川敷の発展と向上を目指して活動している二子玉川商店会や一般社団法人二子玉川エリアマネジメンツの皆様をお招きして、講義を行っていただくとともに、二子玉川コミュニティの活性化を目指し活動するハートアート作家の西村公一氏のご指導の下、学内に４つのハートを作成しました。
西村氏の作るハートの最大の特徴は、マスキングテープのみで作成されるという点です。さまざまな色や柄があるマスキングテープを使用して作られるハートはどれもユニークで、二子玉川では子供も大人も制作に参加し、ハート制作を楽しんでいます。
両校のキャンパスに散りばめられた４つのハートは組み合わせると一つの大きな作品となっており、テンプル大学のシンボルであるフクロウと昭和女子大学のシンボルである桜をモチーフとして作られています。
30人以上の学生で制作部分を分担し完成させたハートは、学生それぞれの貼り方や色使いが表れた作品となっています。これらの作品は、11/17までテンプル大学中庭面窓と昭和女子大学学生ホール窓に展示されていますので、ぜひ御覧ください。
“Community Art (TUJ Collaboration)” is a course that was newly offered in September 2020 and a second time in 2021. This course allows students to think about community and art from a global perspective with students from Temple University, Japan Campus. In this bilingual English-Japanese course, students will learn about real-time community art activities such as in the Setagaya Art Museum, the Futakotamagawa Shopping Street, etc. Each group will plan, propose, and execute a project to revitalize their own “community.”
This year, we invited members of the Futakotamagawa Shopping Association and the Futakotamagawa Area Management Association, which are working to develop and improve the Futakotamagawa shopping district and riverbed, to give us lectures. In addition, we created four hearts on campus under the guidance of Mr. Koichi Nishimura, a heart art artist who is also working to revitalize the Futakotamagawa community.
The main feature of the hearts created by Mr. Nishimura is that they are made only with masking tape. Using masking tape of various colors and patterns, each heart has highly uniqueness. At Futakotamagawa, both children and adults enjoy participating in the creation of the hearts. The four hearts scattered throughout the two schools were combined to form one large work, featuring each school’s symbol, the owl and the cherry blossom. The hearts were created by more than 30 students, each with their own way of pasting and using colors. These works will be on display in the courtyard window of Temple University and in the student hall of Showa Women’s University until November 17th.
