8月1日から8月3日までの3日間、夏季集中講義「伝統芸能実習」が行われました。
国指定重要無形民俗文化財『相模人形芝居』の保存団体である下中座の方々から直々にご指導いただき、人形浄瑠璃の三人遣いの実技を習得した上で、学生がオリジナルのシナリオを作り、3日目には上演を行いました。
今年はTUJ科目等履修生2名が受講しました。
私は「伝統芸能実習」という夏季集中講座に参加した。この授業では人形浄瑠璃について学んだ。このような貴重な機会を逃してはならないと思い、申し込んだ。今まで人形浄瑠璃の人形を実際に見たり、触れたりしたことはなかったので興味を持っていた。
3日間の実習では、人形を操るチャンスがあり、私は「五郎」という人形の、足を操る役割を与えられた。正直に言うと、人形を操ることは非常に難しかった。10～12キロの人形を持って、同じ姿勢を10数分維持したり、人形を動作させたりすることは非常に大変だった。このような動作になれていないため、全身筋肉痛になった。
しかし、新体験の苦痛はそれほど重要ではない。普段、学べないことを学んだのだから。SWUの学生と一緒に同じ目標にむかって困難を克服したことは、やりがいのある、よい経験だった。
一方で、楽しいことも経験した。最も印象に残っているのはストーリーを創作する活動である。最初、私はくだらない話を提案したが、修正してよい物語になり、すばらしいと思った。
この授業は、専門用語が多かったが、SWUの学生たち、TAの村松さん、大谷津先生は辛抱強く理解できなかった言葉の意味を説明してくださり、たいへん感謝している。
今回の実習を通してさまざまなことを学ぶことができた。学んだことは一生忘れない。良い勉強であった。

I participated in an intensive summer course called “Traditional Performing Arts Practice”. In this class, we learned about Ningyo Joruri. I thought that this was a valuable opportunity I should not miss, and so I applied. I had never actually seen or touched a Ningyo Joruri puppet before, which was the reason I was interested in it.
During the three days of the course, I had the chance to control a puppet. I was responsible for controlling the legs of a puppet called “Goro.” To be honest, it was very difficult to control “Goro”. Holding and moving a 10 to 12 kg puppet while maintaining the same posture for ten minutes was extremely difficult. As I was not accustomed to this kind of physical activity, I had muscle cramps all over my body throughout the three-day course.
However, the physical pain I felt was not important. I learned things that I would not have normally learnt elsewhere. I find the experience of learning to overcome difficulties together with the other SWU students towards the same goal a rewarding experience.
On the other hand, I also had fun during this course The most interesting activity in this course was the part where we had to create a story. At first, I suggested a silly story, but the other SWU students made meaningful adjustments to the silly story such that the end result was, in my opinion, quite profound.
There were many esoteric terminologies with regards to Ningyo Joruri in this class. However, my fellow SWU classmates, the teaching assistant Ms. Muramatsu, and Professor Oyatsu patiently explained the meanings of those terminologies that I found difficult to understand. I am very grateful to them for their kindness.
I was taught many valuable lessons and I will never forget what I have learnt from this course.
