During the August-September SWU summer break, I (Kristie Sage, ELC Dept.) accompanied Funaki san and Sakamoto san of the Centre of International Exchange (CIE) to the University of Queensland (UQ), our partner university in Australia. We could meet with many students, teachers and staff of UQ which was courtesy of our host, the vivacious Majella Ferguson.
Majella san is also the main contact for our new DDP program with UQ. As a UQ alumni, it was special to return to campus, and to see how it remains committed to pursuing high quality education and research, and in a student-centred way.
I, along with my CIE colleages, were all so impressed with the vibrant atmosphere among students on the beautiful and centrally located UQ campus, the level of student service provided by the university and the wonderful study spaces all over campus – in the e-library, in self study pods, at campus coffee shops, and the outdoors including the great court which is surrounded by historical sandstone buildings, lively coffee shops, and bustling student-run stalls.
