高校生（ブリティッシュ・スクール・イン・トウキョウ昭和 ）の図書館職業体験が今日終了しました。
5日間の職業体験を振り返って。。。

この五日間を振り返ってみて、図書館内で様々な仕事をさせてもらった中で、最も楽しめたと思うのは地下書庫で依頼通りの本や雑誌などを探し出して、ブックリフトを使って上に送るという仕事でした。 他にさせていただいた仕事ももちろん楽しませていただいたのですが、地下書庫には新しい本から１００年近く前の本もあり、星の数ほどある中から、それこそ探し出すのは簡単ではありませんでしたが、沢山の本に囲まれながらの作業だったので、ある意味では宝探しのようでした。 それ以外では、盗難防止を訴えかけるポスター等を英訳させていただき、本のラベルをはったりはがしたりなど、傍から見ると退屈そうに見えるものも、個人としては、楽しく作業ができたと思います。
一日目にやらせていただいた、展示物の設営や、四日目にみせていただいた、ポスターやチラシの展示の仕方や選ぶ理由など、本と係わるだけが図書館員ではないと改めて実感しました。
Looking back on 5days of my work experience. Having done variety of tasks in library, one task I enjoyed the most is at the underground book stack, try to find books or old magazines which is send to the upstairs using book lift for copy to be sent to other universities requiring them. It was quite tough job to do , yet ,it was just like treasure hunt being surrounded by books from different countries and generations. Of course, I enjoyed other tasks too, such as, translating the notice for anti-theft into English. And, putting on and taking off the barcodes on books. They sounds boring job but, I personally enjoyed it.
The setting up for little exhibition on day 1 and the show around the posters and fliers on how to choose appropriate ones on day 4. Making me realise that, being with books is not what librarians do all the time. (A.W)
