7月20日（水）の昼休みに、英語コミュニケーション学科、国際学科合同の2016年度後期留学出発式が実施されました。
ボストンに加えアルカラ大学（スペイン）、上海交通大学（中国）、ソウル女子大学（韓国）、国民大学（韓国）、淑明女子大学（韓国）、漢陽女子大学（韓国）に留学する200名弱の学生が参加し、金子学長の講話のあと、学生代表が英語、スペイン語、中国語、韓国語で決意表明の挨拶をしました。

Departure Ceremony Speech (Boston)
“I couldn’t say what I wanted to say.” I often feel this way when I talk with foreigners. The causes are that I don’t know natural phrases often used by native English speakers, their culture, society, or politics. And the biggest cause is that I’m afraid my English won’t be understood by them.
To overcome these obstacles, I will both learn English in Boston and gain a better understanding of American society.
There are 3 things I’m looking forward to doing.
First, I will be in situations where I can use only English. All of our classes are done in English. People who walk around the city talk in English. When I order a hamburger, it must be in English. And beyond such basic needs, speaking directly with Americans in their own language will help me to deepen my intercultural understanding. Also, like you, I hope to improve my TOEIC score.
Second, the US presidential election will be held in November. Many Americans will be talking about it, so it will be a great chance to learn about American politics and political views.
Finally, in relations with my friends, teachers, and people in volunteer work, I want to reflect upon my life and deepen my self-understanding. Volunteer work is a standard part of the Showa Boston curriculum, and I look forward to serving others in this way.

“言いたかったことを言えなかった”
外国人の方と話すとき、このように思うことが多いです。その原因はネイティブが使う自然な表現や彼らの文化、社会、政治についてよく知らないからです。そして最も大きな原因は自分の英語が通じないことを恐れているからです。これらを乗り越える為に私はボストンへ行きます。私が楽しみにしていることは3つあります。1つ目に英語しか使えない場面に自分を置くということです。授業はすべて英語で行われ、町を歩く人々の会話も英語、ハンバーガーを注文するときもまた英語です。だから英語を話し、聞き、書く機会は日本よりも確実に多いでしょう。2つ目はアメリカ大統領選挙が11月に行われることです。多くのアメリカ人が選挙について話し、それはアメリカの政治や政治的観点について学ぶ良い機会になるでしょう。最後は私の友人、先生方、ボランティアで出会う人々との関わり合いです。これによって自分の人生を見つめなおし、自己理解を深めたいのです。ボストン留学が終わるまでに、これらの経験を通して、TOEICで750点をとり、自信を持って英語を話すという最も大切な目標に到達したいです。これらのことを私と一緒に挑戦してみませんか？
